<密西西比鳄/密河鳄/美洲鼍>

密西西比鳄是大型的短吻鳄，体长可达4.9~6.1米，但是现存的个体很少有长到这样大的。密西西比鳄生活于美国弗吉尼亚-北卡罗莱那以南的静止或流动缓慢的河流、淡水湖泊和沼泽中。幼体以昆虫和甲壳动物为食，年轻个体捕食爬行动物、小型哺乳动物和鸟类，成体喜欢捕食小型食草动物。
密西西比鳄修筑堆起的巢，产卵较多，雌鳄负责照看巢和幼鳄。密西西比鳄目前数量有所增长，同时有大量人工养殖，总数已经达到一百万只，不再属于受威胁物种。
